CARNOMED CEO: Why the most expensive supplement is often actually the cheapest

The price of a dietary supplement or product is not a reliable indicator. What matters is the dosage, how long the product lasts, and the cost of the daily regimen. Why are high-quality supplements designed for long-term use, and how can you take them sensibly – so you don’t end up paying more than necessary for your health?

When the price of a dietary supplement doesn’t matter

At first glance, it sounds paradoxical. When it comes to dietary supplements, most people ask a simple question: How much does it cost? In my opinion, however, that’s only half the story. The true value of a dietary supplement doesn’t lie in the price of the pack, but in what it actually delivers to you each day you take it.

I believe this is where most misunderstandings arise. Many of our customers compare products based solely on the price per box. However, a supplement that costs less may ultimately work out significantly more expensive if it contains lower doses of active ingredients or requires a higher number of capsules per day.

What matters, therefore, is not the price of the product, but the cost of the daily treatment.

It’s the dose that matters, not the packaging

For every dietary supplement, there is a certain dosage range that makes sense. Both modern research and practical experience show that the effect of the ingredients depends primarily on there being a sufficient amount of the active ingredient. If the dose is too low, the effect tends to be minimal – even if the product is cheap.

That is why I always recommend looking at three simple factors:

1. Recommended daily dose of the active ingredient
2. Number of capsules per pack
3. Number of days’ supply per pack

When you combine these three figures, you get the answer to the most important question: how much it costs per day of use. We always highlight this information.

On the product pages at carnomed.sk, we strive to present this information as transparently as possible, precisely so that customers can quickly work out the true value of the supplement.

It is also important to mention one more thing. Our specialised formulations are designed for long-term use. This is because the biological mechanisms they influence – whether metabolism, oxidative stress, cellular energy metabolism or immune processes – do not work on the principle of immediate effect.

The real benefits become apparent precisely with systematic, long-term use. That is why it makes sense to view dietary supplements in terms of months, not days.

Why is it important to stick to the recommended daily intake?

I often come across two extremes. Some people decide to take fewer capsules than the manufacturer recommends so that the pack will last longer. Others, on the other hand, believe that if they take more capsules, the effect will automatically be faster or stronger.

However, neither approach is correct.

If the dose is too low, the concentration of the active ingredient in the body may not reach the level required to trigger the biological mechanisms we expect. In practice, this means that although a person is taking the supplement, its effect is minimal or non-existent. In such cases, it may seem that the supplement ‘doesn’t work’, even though the problem is simply an insufficient dose.

On the other hand, unnecessarily high doses may not produce better results. This is because the body often has natural limits on the absorption and utilisation of certain substances. Beyond a certain threshold, efficacy does not increase any further, and one merely increases costs or places an unnecessary burden on the metabolism.

The recommended daily dose is therefore not determined at random. It is the result of a combination of scientific findings, safety limits and practical experience with long-term use.

Value for money is more important than price

It often turns out that a supplement with a higher price per pack is actually better value for money, as it contains higher doses of active ingredients or lasts for a longer period of use.

In practice, this means that a product may cost more upfront, but works out cheaper when calculated on a per-day basis. In my view, this approach is much fairer to the customer than simply comparing price tags.

How to use supplements even more economically

Our long-standing experience has shown us that there are several ways in which customers can significantly optimise their expenditure on nutritional supplements.

The first is to choose value-for-money packages that combine products which naturally complement one another. This is because many biological substances work best in synergy.

The second option is to buy larger packs, which generally offer better value for money per capsule and per day of use.

A third approach involves combining supplements into synergistic pairs that target the same physiological mechanism. This approach often results not only in a better biological effect, but also in a more rational dosage.

Loyalty scheme, subscriptions and delivery

However, we also understand that taking supplements is often a long-term commitment. That is why we have decided to create a scheme that helps reduce the cost for regular customers.

Registered customers can take advantage of a loyalty scheme offering discounts of between 5% and 13%, depending on the value of their purchases.

For those who take supplements regularly, we have also introduced a scheme that I consider to be quite revolutionary – a SUBSCRIPTION with a fixed 18% discount, which guarantees a stable price and regular delivery of products at the best possible price.

What’s more, delivery is COMPLETELY FREE on orders over €40, which we consider a given and a standard part of the service we provide to our customers.

The most important thing is to target it correctly

However, what I consider absolutely crucial is neither the price nor the discount. The most important thing is that the supplement is chosen correctly for the individual in question, with an optimal supplementation plan. That is why, alongside our products, we offer free expert advice from our specialists at www.carnomed.sk/poradna, whose aim is to help customers select the most appropriate combinations of supplements – based on their health, lifestyle, symptoms and the specific needs of their body.

I am convinced that this is precisely the approach that gives our dietary supplements and nutraceuticals their true value. It is not about blindly buying products based on price, but rather about making an informed choice, ensuring the correct dosage, and following expert guidance.

And then it may well be that the price of the supplement doesn’t really matter. Because what really matters is the actual benefit it brings to your health.
