How to build brain and nervous system resilience and how carnosine can fight neurodegenerative diagnoses will be discussed in today’s Teleray with specialist and expert consultant Co. CarnoMed , surgeon and oncologist doc. MUDr. Eliška Kubíková, PhD., MPH.
Exactly. It is clearly a substance with enormous benefits and potential for the functioning of the brain, the nervous system as well as its cognitive functions. In fact, it has been found to be able to regenerate cells and prolong their life and performance. It also makes sure that, in layman’s terms, the cells communicate with each other, thus ensuring the automatic functioning of our body. Thus, carnosine could help in the fight against degenerative diseases that are directly related to aging, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, depression, schizophrenia and others. Carnosine is an excellent neuroprotective substance.
First of all, by preventing damage and repairing the damage caused by the toxic action of glycation products. These are formed by the reaction of glucose with amino acids. Detto, carnosine has the potential to restore the functionality of the mitochondria, thereby increasing the overall energy metabolism of the brain, thus improving concentration, its performance and fighting depression. Carnosine restores the functionality of neuro-receptors, also reduces the formation of beta-amyloid proteins involved in the pathological process of brain tissue degeneration.
Yes, we are putting our brains under much greater demands than we used to, we are struggling with stress, burnout, depression, yet we want to be constantlyefficient, creative, able to work in any circumstance in a focused manner, often for 12 hours or more…
Certainly, we put less effort and time into giving the brain what it deserves. Its neuroprotective effect also has a significant impact on slowing aging, and it also appears to be an effective nootropic in cases of senile dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and even multiple sclerosis.
This is great news ! Do you also have good news for patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ?
Yes, CarnoMed was the first company in the world to analyze the administration of Carnosine to multiple sclerosis patients and demonstrate its benefits in 2020. The open-label clinical trial investigated the efficacy and safety of oral L-Carnosine for the treatment of MS and was organized according to CARE guidelines. This case study included two women (aged 37 and 48 years) and a man (48 years) who met the 2017 McDonald criteria for the diagnosis of SM and had no other major chronic diseases or acute disorders. The results were very encouraging. To mention just a few – all patients, regardless of advanced disease stage, had a reduction in overall fatigue. This is a most significant finding, as fatigue is perceived as one of the most debilitating manifestations of SM disease, and is usually associated with the onset of depression. The patients studied had increased mobility, muscle tone, improved pain tolerance and depression. Also, in all patients, the total antioxidant capacity in the blood serum increased. No adverse effects were reported.
So what are your recommendations for building overall brain resilience?
Stress damages our cells and body. Therefore, how you are able to process and resist stress is extremely important. At the same time, alternate stressful situations with something positive, such as relaxation in the form of music, exercise, a good diet, but also a holiday that can positively stimulate the brain and thus our body to physical and mental performance, creativity, longer concentration. The building and protective bomb for the brain are three substances – glutathione, DHA and carnosine. When we are deficient, we can replace it. Then the brain will thank us.
