Long-term stress can lead to a loss of the ability to relax in moments of well-being and rest. This leads us into a vicious circle of permanent tension, which needs to be addressed immediately!
The current lifestyle is sometimes more hectic than we can cope with. We are often in a hurry and stressed, which has a significant impact on our psyche. Nervousness, hypersensitivity and irritability are thus one of the manifestations of mental imbalance or exhaustion. You must have heard about meditation. However, for people with hectic lifestyles, it is an excellent way to learn how to manage stress. The more advanced ones even use it to relieve pain. The secret of meditation is to “switch” the mind into an inactive state in which you push out all thoughts. Both pulse and breathing will slow down as a result. The reduced amount of oxygen affects hormone levels in the body. As a result, a gradual mental and consequently physical relaxation occurs. The level of stress, tension, nervousness, anxiety or even aggression is reduced. The meditator gains a sense of self-confidence, energy and enthusiasm. These findings have been confirmed by numerous research studies; they began as early as the 1960s. With the right meditation techniques, one can bring about a sense of perfect relaxation, which is the much desired antithesis to stressful and tense situations. So how to do it?
1. Sit comfortably on the floor, taking care to keep your back stretched out, which should be in a straight line with your head and neck.
2. Close your eyes to help you concentrate.
3. Focus your attention on your breathing, watch how your belly rises and falls. Focus all your thoughts on this process. If you catch yourself “wandering” in your mind, calmly go back to your breathing.
4. Try to hold still for at least 20 minutes. Don’t despair if you don’t do very well at concentrating the first time. Like everything, the art of meditation needs to be gradually mastered. Follow the motto that practice makes perfect!
There are several ways to learn how to meditate. The easiest is to attend a course, which are now widely available. However, meditation is also practiced to some extent in yoga classes. However, there are also meditation CDs or videos on the internet.
