In June 2020, we were the first Slovak manufacturer to launch Sulforaphane EXTRA with a vision to bring transparency, scientific accuracy and controlled biological efficacy to the field of special nutraceuticals.
The historical scientific legacy of our country also played a role in the creation of Sulforaphane EXTRA: Prof. Katarína Horáková, a member of the expert team at the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV), proved the anti-cancer effects of sulforaphane and its precursors in vitro more than 60 years ago. The team’s experiments demonstrated the ability of this molecule to modulate cell proliferation and support detoxification pathways, laying the foundations for later scientific research into sulforaphane in the human body.

Sulforaphane is an isothiocyanate derived from glucoraphanin, which is naturally found in cruciferous vegetables, especially broccoli sprouts and seeds. Activation occurs through the action of the enzyme myrosinase, which catalyses the conversion of glucoraphanin to biologically active sulforaphane.
This mechanism is crucial because only freshly produced sulforaphane is capable of effectively modulating intracellular signalling pathways and activating the cell’s protective mechanisms.
Scientific studies show that sulforaphane activates the Nrf2 transcription factor, thereby stimulating the expression of genes involved in antioxidant and detoxification processes. Research by a team led by Paul Talalay at Johns Hopkins University has shown that sulforaphane induces phase II detoxification enzymes, promotes the elimination of potentially harmful substances, and increases cell defence (Talalay & Fahey, 2001).
Clinical studies published in Clinical Cancer Research and Cancer Prevention Research analysed its effect on inflammatory pathways, oxidative stress and cell protection. Review papers (Zhang et al., 2015; Egner et al., 2014) confirm that sulforaphane is involved in modulating the Nrf2 pathway by increasing glutathione levels, supports detoxification mechanisms in the liver and other tissues, influences the regulation of NF-κB-mediated inflammatory processes, exhibits neuroprotective potential, and contributes to maintaining metabolic homeostasis.
However, it should be emphasised that its biological efficacy is fundamentally dependent on the form of the product, the stability of the molecule and its actual bioavailability.
A common question from customers is the difference between ready-made sulforaphane in powder form and capsules containing glucoraphanin with myrosinase.
There are products on the market that contain pre-formed sulforaphane, which is a technologically simpler and cheaper solution. However, sulforaphane is a chemically unstable molecule that is subject to degradation by light, moisture, oxygen, and time. As a result, the actual biologically active amount in such a product may be significantly lower than stated on the label.
Sulforaphane EXTRA uses a stable precursor, glucoraphanin 200 mg, in combination with active myrosinase, with enzymatic conversion occurring only after administration.
This way, fresh, biologically active sulforaphane is created directly in the body. This approach ensures greater predictability of the biological effect, minimises losses during storage and passage through the digestive tract, respects the natural pharmacokinetics of the molecule, and at the same time represents a technologically and financially more demanding process, which, however, brings real biological value.
Therefore, cheap powdered products or imitations often fail to meet expectations, not because the molecule itself is ineffective, but because its bioavailability is very low and limited.
Sulforaphane EXTRA is also formulated in a highly resistant, gastroresistant capsule with controlled release, which protects the active ingredients from degradation in the acidic environment of the stomach and ensures their targeted release in the intestine, where optimal enzymatic conversion to biologically active sulforaphane takes place.
Despite its technological complexity, the daily Sulforaphane EXTRA treatment starts at just €0.46 per day for registered customers. In the context of a clinically tested biologically active molecule, stabilised enzymatic conversion, highly resistant capsule technology and Slovakian production, this represents an exceptionally favourable price-to-biological value ratio.
In practice, this means that Sulforaphane EXTRA can be included in a long-term preventive or supportive regimen without undue financial burden, while the user obtains a standardised, safe and biomedically significant compound.
