It is a natural plant compound (phytochemical) found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, rocket and Brussels sprouts. In these foods, it is in an inactive form as glucoraphanin, which is activated only after the plant is disrupted by the enzyme myrosinase. SULFORAFAN EXTRA supplies the body with myrosinase-activated glucoraphanin, which is metabolised and absorbed in the small intestine as sulforaphane. The active enzyme myrosinase ensures a high level of utilisation of the active substance. It is rapidly absorbed and has high bioavailability in the body.
The active substance was first discovered in the late 1950s by Slovak scientist Prof. RNDr. Katarína Horáková, DrSc., who studied the anti-cancer effect of natural sulforaphane on human cancer cells in vitro.
