Chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) has been used as part of traditional medicine for centuries. It may strengthen the immune system as it contains a wide range of secondary plant compounds that help the immune system defend itself against bacteria and viruses.

It stimulates the immune system only when necessary and can also calm an overactive immune response. Chaga acts as a mood booster, increasing alertness and energy without the need to stimulate the adrenal glands with caffeine. It may support brain health, improve concentration and memory, and help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, it has strong anti-inflammatory properties that may aid in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis or chronic inflammation.

Among medicinal mushrooms, Chaga contains the highest amount of antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that slow down or prevent the oxidation process in other molecules within the body, helping to protect cells from damage. It has one of the highest ORAC scores among all foods. ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is a measure that determines the antioxidant capacity of foods. A higher ORAC score means a greater ability of the food to protect the body from free radicals, which can contribute to the development of various diseases. Chaga mushroom has achieved the highest values ever recorded.

Chaga contains more than 200 different biologically active compounds, essential amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, and B3, phenols, minerals (copper, magnesium, calcium, iron, chloride, manganese, germanium), and betulinic acid.

The Chaga mushroom may have significant potential in the fight against liver, lung, breast, prostate, and colon cancer. In one animal study, it was found that triterpenoids present in the extract of this mushroom have the ability to destroy cancer cells.
