Movement is vital for the body. Sedentary lifestyles, lack of exercise and unhealthy lifestyles are highlighted by the World Health Organization, which has declared 10. The World Health Day, which has been observed since 2003, is marked on 10 May. Movement is medicine for the body and can effectively prevent many diseases. It is not expensive and yet many people die every year from chronic diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyles.
Lack of exercise causes a number of chronic diseases. According to the World Health Organisation, at least 1.9 million people die each year due to lack of physical activity and neglect of healthy lifestyles. This is mainly due to cancer, metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal and other diseases, which are triggered by an unhealthy lifestyle. Regular exercise has a positive effect on metabolism and immunity. It improves the function of the heart and vascular system, positively affects blood pressure, improves lung function, increasesphysical fitness, strengthens the muscles on which the function of the joints, the spine and the mobility of the whole body depend. It also has a psychological effect on the body: it calms, increases the ability to concentrate and relieves stress.
Movement is a natural part of life and there are several forms of it. We should choose a sporting activity based on what we enjoy and also on our physical or health condition. For a healthy functioning body, we should engage in aerobic sports activity for at least 150 minutes a week, whether in the form of running, swimming, jogging, cycling, Nordic walking, etc. It’s up to us how we distribute those 150 minutes throughout the week. 20 minutes of such activity a day is enough to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is advisable to combine aerobic exercise with fitness training, such as yoga, pilates, fitness ball exercises, etc.
The second important ingredient for a healthy body is a balanced diet and a regular drinking regime. A varied vitamin and mineral content gives the body enough energy and strength needed for healthy cell functioning. In today’s hectic times, we don’t have time for proper food. Fast food and lunching at the computer at work leave physical as well as mental marks on us. The body stores all the harmful substances and toxins accumulate in us. A healthy diet combined with sport is the key to a healthy body and a resilient psyche.
In sports and muscle building, carnosine is part of the detoxification processes in skeletal muscles by neutralizing lactic acid and binding free radicals. Carnosine also has the same positive effect on the heart muscle. Thus, carnosine protects muscles from damage, increases muscle strength and endurance, and speeds up the recovery process after physical exercise or training.
